Courage-What Defines This for You?

Courage is a great thing, yet it seems these days that so few people have it. With so much negativity in the media and in the world in general, it seems that we have more to worry about but less men and women coming forward to share their thoughts on what is happening and why.

Do you realize that if you don't like something, you simply need to be the change you want to see? Although we often look at change as way too hard for us, and we may think that getting others to change is too hard, we have to keep looking.

What if those before us just gave us and did nothing? What if those we call leaders didn't exist? What if those we call leaders didn't teach us what we have learned? What would we be like? Would we have acquired that knowledge elsewhere.

To do those things, it took courage. What will you do?

Do You Have Courage?

Has anyone ever asked you if you have courage? If so, there was probably a reason that they asked you. It doesn't mean that you are weak, and it doesn't mean that you are someone that they won't follow, but it does mean that you need to look within yourself for something deeper.

Can you recall a time when you saw something taking place that you didn't agree with, and you did nothing? That was a lack of courage, and on a deeper level it may be a lack of conviction as well. The question isn't whether or not you are capable of being courageous, but it's a matter of whether or not you know what you believe and why.

If you do, it's easier to stand up for it right? There are tons of quotes about courage, and if you have any doubt as to what it means to exhibit courage, read those quotes and you'll better understand it. Read biographies about leaders and what they do, and by all means be sure that you check our our website so that you can read more about the leaders we are meeting, and what they are doing every day to make a difference.

You won't hear about them in the news, or the newspaper, or even the radio. You won't find them on Entertaintment Tonight, American Idol, or even Bill O'Reilly's show. These people just go and do, and they do for God. There is a big difference.

How will you show your courage today?

I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious. ― Albert Einstein
You can talk with someone for years, everyday, and still, it won't mean as much as what you can have when you sit in front of someone, not saying a word, yet you feel that person with your heart, you feel like you have known the person for forever.... connections are made with the heart, not the tongue. ― C. JoyBell C.
Maybe you can afford to wait. Maybe for you there's a tomorrow. Maybe for you there's one thousand tomorrows, or three thousand, or ten, so much time you can bathe in it, roll around it, let it slide like coins through you fingers. So much time you can waste it.But for some of us there's only today. And the truth is, you never really know.”― Lauren OliverBefore I Fall
The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively― Bob Marley
If you want to forget something or someone, never hate it, or never hate him/her. Everything and everyone that you hate is engraved upon your heart; if you want to let go of something, if you want to forget, you cannot hate. ― C. JoyBell C.
Don't be afraid of your fears. They're not there to scare you. They're there to let you know that something is worth it. ― C. JoyBell C.
We have to allow ourselves to be loved by the people who really love us, the people who really matter. Too much of the time, we are blinded by our own pursuits of people to love us, people that don't even matter, while all that time we waste and the people who do love us have to stand on the sidewalk and watch us beg in the streets! It's time to put an end to this. It's time for us to let ourselves be loved. ― C. JoyBell C.
You will find that it is necessary to let things go; simply for the reason that they are heavy. So let them go, let go of them. I tie no weights to my ankles.― C. JoyBell C.
Pick the day. Enjoy it - to the hilt. The day as it comes. People as they come... The past, I think, has helped me appreciate the present, and I don't want to spoil any of it by fretting about the future.― Audrey Hepburn
Pretty good eh? Check out the rest!
I have come to accept the feeling of not knowing where I am going. And I have trained myself to love it. Because it is only when we are suspended in mid-air with no landing in sight, that we force our wings to unravel and alas begin our flight. And as we fly, we still may not know where we are going to. But the miracle is in the unfolding of the wings. You may not know where you're going, but you know that so long as you spread your wings, the winds will carry you.― C. JoyBell C.

The only way that we can live, is if we grow. The only way that we can grow is if we change. The only way that we can change is if we learn. The only way we can learn is if we are exposed. And the only way that we can become exposed is if we throw ourselves out into the open. Do it. Throw yourself.― C. JoyBell C.
There is no such thing as a "broken family." Family is family, and is not determined by marriage certificates, divorce papers, and adoption documents. Families are made in the heart. The only time family becomes null is when those ties in the heart are cut. If you cut those ties, those people are not your family. If you make those ties, those people are your family. And if you hate those ties, those people will still be your family because whatever you hate will always be with you. ― C. JoyBell C.
Pain is a pesky part of being human, I've learned it feels like a stab wound to the heart, something I wish we could all do without, in our lives here. Pain is a sudden hurt that can't be escaped. But then I have also learned that because of pain, I can feel the beauty, tenderness, and freedom of healing. Pain feels like a fast stab wound to the heart. But then healing feels like the wind against your face when you are spreading your wings and flying through the air! We may not have wings growing out of our backs, but healing is the closest thing that will give us that wind against our faces.― C. JoyBell C.

Courage-What is it Really?

Courage. What is it anyhow? Is it the ability to walk into a house that is haunted? Is it the ability to standd up for your rights even if others tell you NO? What is courage? What does it really mean? Why do so many people need it, or at least seem to lack it?

Courage is actually feeling the fear, but doing it anyway. I can remember listening to a marketing coach say this at a conference last year, and I thought, yep, that is accurate.

Howeve, why is it that some have it and some don't? Could it be our upbringing, our religious beliefs, or even our financial blueprint? What makes us courageous or not at all?

Real Courage Always Believes

It has been said that when someone has faith, they can move a mountain. So, are faith and courage the same thing? Yes and no. In reality, faith is believing without seeing, but courage is the feeling  you get that leads you to take action.

For example, when Jesus was walking on the water, and the disciples though He was a ghost, he said to them, "Oh yea of little faith." This was because:

  1. Jesus knew that in their humanness they were afraid
  2. Jesus met them where they were mentally
  3. Jesus wanted to use this experience to teach them

Through this experience, he wanted his followers to know that he was NOT about fear, but about love, and a sound mind. He wanted them to have that, and to cling to that with hope, not to lose hope. Don't you see that God was about building up people and NOT letting them become downtrodden by life?

Sometimes it's hard to see God in everything, but it has been said that, we don't see God in all, we don't see God at all! God is always there even when we face fearful times, and when we face trials. So, do you think courage is a great way to define faith? What else would you call it?

Be of Good Courage

Have you ever read the verse that asks you to be of good courage? If not, here goes:

Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.- Psalm 27:14
Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD your God, he it is that does go with you; he will not fail you, nor forsake you. -Deuteronomy 31:6

Character: Who You Are When No One is Looking

Have you ever taken something that didn't belong to you? What about when you were in the presence of someone and they weren't looking? Did you take something? Think back, I mean really think back. Even when you were a kid and you were "just a kid" did you take anything that you thought wasn't a big deal?

What about pens, note pads, and other things that your office supplied you with? Anytime you take anything that doesn't belong to you, you are stealing. It's something to think about right? What about clocking in early when you aren't working? Yep, that's stealing company time folks. It's just stealing.

Who is Watching You?

The question isn't always about whether or not you do good things, but whether or not you are doing things you shouldn't be doing when no one is looking. You never know who is watching you at work, or at church, and the things you say, the way you act, are all going to give people insight into who you are and what you are about.

You can still be a good person and be a thief. You may have been in a situation where you stole something but didn't realize it. Your awareness since reading this blog post is now a bit different, because now you have been told that it is wrong to take things that don't belong to you.

You need to digest this, internalize it, and really make it part of your belief system. Think about it this way; isn't it more rewarding to work hard to earn something with your own two hands than to take it from someone else that did the work?

What a sense of accomplishment you would have, rather than a sense of guilt. It's imperative that you get this, understand it, eat, sleep, and breathe it, and then teach this to others. Remember, you may be the only positive person someone ever meets.

You could be the only Bible that some folks will EVER read.

So, what is character? It's who you are and what you do when no one is looking. I guarantee!

Live courageously!
